League of Legends (abbreviated to LoL or just League) it’s a free online multiplayer battle arena published and developed by Riot Games for Windows and OS X. The game was inspired by the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne mod and it’s supported by microtransactions.
In League, the players have to assume the role of an unseen „summoner” who controls a „champion” who has unique abilities and battle agaist a team of other players or computer controlled champions.The goal of this game is to destroy enemy „nexus” . Every League match it’s very discrete, because all the champs are starting fairly weak but they can increase strenght by buying items and getting expreience by completing the game tasks.
The game in time has grown in popularity, in 2012 July, League of Legends was the most played PC game in North America and Europe in terms of numbers played. In 2014 January , over 67 million people has played League of Legends per month, 27 million per day and over 7.5 million per hour.
League of Legends has an active competitive scene in North America and Europe, Riot Games organizes the League Championship Series , which are located in Los Angeles and Berlin as well. These similar regional competitions exist in China, South Korea, Taiwan and Southeast Asia.
